MMA Construction Process
The Sanmen County ribbon-style bridge deck uses an MMA colored anti-slip broadcast-aggregate system. The steel box-girder substrate is blast-cleaned to Sa 2.5, cleared of dust, and coated with epoxy primer. MMA resin and curing agent are mixed, applied as a 3–5 mm bonding layer, and immediately covered with colored ceramic aggregates. After curing, loose particles are removed and a protective topcoat is applied. Ambient-temperature installation and 1–2-hour curing enable efficient phased construction.
MMA Material Advantages
The lightweight, flexible system accommodates steel bridge movement and resists coastal salt mist, harsh weather, and long-term wear. A BPN of at least 75 provides excellent skid resistance in wet conditions. Stable, fade-resistant colors and contrasting lines enhance the bridge’s ribbon design. Thin-layer application adds minimal structural load, while strong adhesion, integrated waterproofing, and corrosion protection improve durability. With an expected service life of 8–10 years, the system reduces maintenance frequency and offers better long-term value than traditional paving.
